What is Crate and Barrel Outlet?

Crate and Barrel, along with their sister brand CB2, is definitely a go-to for modern and contemporary furniture and home décor. I think of it a lot like if Pottery Barn and West Elm had a baby :-p You can find a nice range of extremely innovative and forward thinking designs, as well as a nice collection of classic staples. The Outlet is where Crate and Barrel furniture goes when it has been returned by the original customer, has damage, has manufacturing defects, or was overproduced. Crate and Barrel Outlet ranks their items as first quality or second quality.

First quality means that the Crate and Barrel furniture is either new in the box (but unpacked for you to view at the outlet) or appears to be in as good of condition as you would find at a retail Crate and Barrel location. First quality items will have minimal to no damage or may be slightly dirty from handling. Discounts are usually minimal to start on these items (20-30% off).

When custom made items are ordered online but cancelled mid-way through production, those brand new items cannot be resold online and land over at an outlet as first quality merchandise!

Second quality means that the Crate and Barrel furniture is not of like-new condition. These items may have dents, deep or excessive scratching, chips or cracks, paint or stain imperfections, missing hardware or parts, or significant stains or smudges. Typically, items of this quality start at a steeper discount (40-50%) to reflect the damage present.

I have occasionally seen items that come in at 70-90% off due to very significant issues, like considerable damage or absence of furniture components. The tags will often have a red line through the tag that says Final Sale. These items are deemed safe to use, but you’ll want to put on your crafty DIY hat to see how you can transform the item into something new again.

THIS is the outlet that ignited my love for outlet shopping. I have had so much success getting items from this the Crate and Barrel Furniture Clearance Center in Tracy, CA (now closed- tear) for around 80% off.

My best finds have been an 8×10 rug, a storage coffee table, a media console, and a couch all for $200-$250 per item. I was seconds away from purchasing both the 8×10 rug and a queen sleeper sofa for retail price, but decided to call and see if they had them. They did!

I saved a boatload of money purchasing these items from the outlet. They have always been so helpful in searching their database to see if an item is in stock- just have the SKU ready!

Crate and Barrel Outlet Prices

Crate & Barrel Outlet has changed their pricing structure to a category discount rotation. For example, sofas may be 40% off one week and 30% off the next. They also frequently offer an additional markdown discount, like an extra 15% off when spending over a certain threshold, on a specific category, or “this weekend only.”

I have seen plenty of items with this red FINAL SALE slash through it. In the photo below, you can see that item made it to over 90% off.

One caveat about these items though, is that they are usually severely damaged. Those pieces, when viewed creatively, can be an amazing way to purchase some high quality items for a literal fraction of the price. For example, here is the cabinet from the photo above.

You see, the cabinet on the lower left is cracked. At first glance, this seems beyond repair. However, upon closer inspection, I don’t see why someone couldn’t wood glue and clamp this back together, fill any visible divots, and paint the whole thing a new color OR color match the paint.

Another option is to reach out to customer service online and see if they can send you the paint match.

How much cheaper is the Crate and Barrel Outlet?

At minimum, the Crate and Barrel Outlet is 20-30% cheaper than purchasing online. On the high end, you can get items for 70-90% off and anywhere in between.

Does Crate and Barrel Outlet have sales?

Yes, you can find additional promotions, such as an extra markdown for a limited time or when reaching a certain spending threshold. The best way to stay up to date on these flash sales is to follow your local outlet on social media.

Can you negotiate at Crate and Barrel Outlet?

Crate and Barrel Outlet, typically, does not negotiate. I will never tell you not to try though, on the off chance you succeed and save some extra money!

Are all sales final at the Crate and Barrel Outlet?

Yes, all sales are final at the Crate and Barrel Outlet. Additionally, no returns, exchanges or price adjustments will be honored. Furniture purchased from the outlet is in “as is” condition, meaning the items will be void of any warranties. It is important you carefully inspect your Crate and Barrel Outlet items before purchasing.

Is it a good idea to compare outlet prices to the online prices?

It is always a good idea to double check the price of the outlet item you are considering purchasing on the Crate and Barrel website. Outlet prices do not take online sales into consideration, so you may be able to snag the same item brand new and with a warranty for around the same price. I have seen this myself during many of my outlet visits.

Don’t forget to see if you can grab an online coupon!

Is there a Crate and Barrel Outlet website?

Unfortunately, Crate and Barrel Outlet does not have a website. You aren’t totally out of luck, though, as I do often update on various Crate and Barrel Outlets on my Instagram. You can also find the Crate and Barrel Outlet and Clearance page in this post.

Is Crate and Barrel Outlet on social media?

Yes, most of the outlets are on social media and can be found here.

What is the best day to go to the Crate and Barrel Outlet?

You’ll want to time your visit to a Crate and Barrel Outlet around shipment days. The delivery trucks will contain the newest outlet inventory, increasing your chance of snagging the best stuff.

You might be wondering, “When do Crate and Barrel Outlets get shipments?” This is going to vary from outlet to outlet, so it is best to call ahead to confirm what your Crate and Barrel Outlet delivery schedule is.

Shopping during the week at any outlet is one of my top recommendations. Outlets usually do not receive delivery trucks on the weekend, so the inventory will likely be more picked over on weekends. Click here for more outlet tips.

I have not seen Crate and Barrel Outlet do any holiday sale promos.

Does Crate and Barrel Outlet have a client list?

Some outlets, like Restoration Hardware Outlet, will take down your contact information and call you once the specific item you want comes into stock at their outlet. As far as I know, Crate and Barrel in my area does not do this. I suggest reaching out to your Crate and Barrel outlet to inquire if they offer this service.

I have heard from multiple stores that if you frequently call to check on a specific item, they will often “unofficially” take down your information and let you know if it arrives. This is definitely not a guarantee though. It pays to be persistent!

Can I call to see what is in stock at the Crate and Barrel Outlet?

Yes! At the Crate and Barrel Outlets in my area I have always been able to call with the item SKU to see if they currently have the item in stock. Although this may very from location to location, so it is best to call and confirm if they provide this service.

Does the Crate and Barrel Outlet deliver?

While Crate and Barrel Outlets typically do not have an in-house delivery company, they do often have recommendations. Head straight for the register to obtain delivery business cards or keep an eye out for possible signs scattered throughout the store for additional information.

I put together a list of third party recommendations that are often significantly cheaper than the store provided options.

Do Crate and Barrel Outlets ship?

Unfortunately, Crate and Barrel Outlets do not ship nor do they allow purchasing over the phone. Make sure to check out their online outlet if you need something shipped!

You might also have luck locating a personal shopper in the area to purchase and ship on your behalf.

What does Crate and Barrel Outlet have?

Anything you can find on the Crate and Barrel website, or anything discontinued, has the potential of landing at the outlet. Just because you see it online doesn’t guarantee it will be available. You can also often find CB2 Outlet and Crate&Kids Outlet items as well!

Crate and Barrel furniture is constantly changing at the outlet. Below are some examples of CB furniture I have found.

Absolutely! I find the Crate and Barrel Outlet to be one that I recommend most often to those looking for rock bottom prices. There isn’t another outlet where you can consistently find 80+% off every time you visit. It’s my favorite!
