Coming off of four days of manning down the fort with my two kiddos while my husband was away on a work trip warranted a short “me day.” I’ve been meaning to head closer to the Bay Area to scope out the furniture outlets the last couple of weeks, but life just kept throwing various curveballs my way and it just didn’t happen. Until now.

Crate and Barrel Outlet Pricing Structure

I’ve said it about a hundred times before, but the Crate and Barrel Outlet pricing structure is, hands down, my favorite. These are the outlets you go to when you want to get dirt cheap furniture. I’ve gotten 4 out of 6 purchases for 80-90% off (and in nearly perfect condition).

The items come in and are marked at a minimum of 30% off. I’ve seen many items start for as much as 70% off to start, but that’s typically on pieces that have more damage. An additional 10% off mark down will occur weekly until the item is purchased OR it reaches 80% off – their discount “max.” Why the quotations, you ask? I have seen plenty of items with this red FINAL SALE slash through it. In the photo below, you can see that item made it to over 90% off.

One caveat about these items though, is that they are usually severely damaged. Those pieces, when viewed creatively, can be an amazing way to purchase some high quality items for a literal fraction of the price. For example, here is the cabinet from the photo above.

You see, the cabinet on the lower left is cracked. At first glance, this seems beyond repair. However, upon closer inspection, I don’t see why someone couldn’t wood glue and clamp this back together, fill any visible divots, and paint the whole thing a new color OR color match the paint. Another option is to reach out to customer service online and see if they can send you the paint match.

Knowing the date it was marked down is crucial for follow up monitoring, so make sure to grab a photo! I often wait another week or two to see if I can get the item for a lower price. But be warned, you might miss out on it if someone swoops in to buy it. Check out 25 more outlet tips here.

Furniture Delivery

While the Crate and Barrel Outlet does not have an in-house delivery company, they do have some third party recommendations. Keep an eye out for the signs scattered throughout the store for additional information.

Crate and Barrel Outlet: Tracy or Livermore?

I’ve visited the Crate and Barrel Outlet in Livermore, CA several times over the course of my more casual outlet browsing days (pre blog). One thing to note, is that this outlet is only about 25 minutes from the Crate and Barrel Furniture Clearance Center in Tracy, CA. Therefore, it is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE to hit both outlets. And I totally recommend that, as each outlet has their own strengths and weakness. Paired together, it’s totally power couple status. The thing that really sets the Livermore location apart is the abundance of home accessories – that is where this outlet outshines Tracy.

Home Décor: You’ll see from the photos below that there are racks upon racks upon racks of pillows, kitchenware, fabric runners/napkins/tablecloths, candles, vases, sculptures, holiday décor, lamps, clearance items and various other tchotchkes.

I noticed quite a few items with additional discounts applied, which is always a nice surprise. I generally haven’t seen that in this store. I picked up a pair of teal oven mitts on extra sale ($4.95 each) to replace the embarrassingly old/singed/mucky ones currently inhabiting the bottom of my drawer.

Area Rugs: The Crate and Barrel Outlet in Livermore also seems to carry a bulk of the rug inventory between the two locations. While it was a bit slim in pickins today (apparently their truck didn’t come as expected), there are virtually zero rug options at the Tracy location. If you need a rug, choose Livermore.

Kitchenware: While the Tracy Crate and Barrel Furniture Clearance Center does have a decent selection of kitchen goods, I’ve noticed more options and kitchen gadgets in Livermore. If you need new plates/cups/kitchen gadgets, Livermore wins.

Furniture: And this is where the Crate and Barrel Outlet in Livermore loses it’s steam, in my opinion. But honestly, it totally makes sense. Since 25 minutes up the road is the FURNITURE Clearance Center. It is connected to the distribution center, which makes it the most logical place to house the larger and harder to transport items. That being said, there is still a nice selection to choose from in Livermore.

Prices: In my experience, the prices can’t be beat in Tracy. Again, this is where I have gotten the most bang for my buck with furniture items. Logically, it makes sense that the Tracy outlet would get less traffic than the Livermore location, which is nestled right across the street from the San Francisco Premium Outlets. Remember, more foot traffic = likely more purchases = likely less savings.

Winner: For this one, it really does just depend on what you need. For furniture, you definitely need to go to the Crate and Barrel Furniture Clearance Center in Tracy. For all other things, Livermore. But, honestly, if you have the time- go to both!
